The Black Lives Matter is a cause that supports Black individuals and allies in undoing systemic racialized violence. Black Lives Matter is a cause cognizant of the ongoing struggles of all marginalized folks and we strive to honour that in the work we do. We centre the voices of Black people as well as other people of colour and hope to lift up those who are queer, women, trans, differently abled, poor or otherwise marginalized.
Black Lives Matter YYC is a small group of Black activists residing in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. We want to draw attention to our Black communities, celebrate people of colour and work in solidarity with other Black Lives Matter chapters across North America.
In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
